hello

I’m Deneen Wiske (pronounced WHY-skee, but I probably won’t correct you if you say whiskey).

My work helps connect people to the natural world and one another.

My career has covered a wide and wonderfully diverse landscape: research biologist, nonprofit founder and leader, coalition builder, professional fundraiser, public speaker, and entrepreneur.

In all of these roles, I've been a builder—of teams, ideas, relationships, organizations, projects, and communities. As a builder, I look at all the pieces on the board to see how they might work together. From there, I put things into motion—defining and aligning everyone around a shared vision, co-creating plans, making introductions, facilitating conversations, removing obstacles, and keeping the boat steady when things are anything but. For me, the messy, uncertain work of building is where the magic happens—full of iteration, possibility, and discovery.

But building isn’t complete without storytelling. We humans are wired to process and store information through story, and stories have always been the most direct route to our hearts and minds. In challenging times or moments of overwhelm, we need stories to help us get our bearings, find meaning, and imagine new ways forward. I’m a lifelong storyseeker and storyteller, always attuned to narratives that spark connection and inspire possibility, and committed to sharing them in ways that are relevant and resonant.

The nonprofit landscape is where I feel at home. After more than 25 years in the sector, the nonprofit ethos is now an integral part of my identity and purpose. With experience spanning operations, development, governance, communications, and programming, I bring a 360-degree perspective to the unique opportunities and challenges nonprofits face.

If you’re curious about how we might work together—whether with your team, your project, your organization, or your community—I’d love to explore what we can build together.
